I am a neurofeedback clinician and specialist. I am not a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
Our brains are so profoundly powerful and complex. They control input and output from every organ and system in our bodies right down to the tips of our toes. Yet leading neurologists and scientists acknowledge that there is still more about the brain that we don't know than what we do know.
So, what are we to do when something goes wrong with our brains? Have you suffered mental or emotional trauma that has caused your brain to react poorly? Do you struggle to recover from stressful or emotional situations? Do you know someone who has a "learning disability?" Could it be caused by an imbalance or dysregulation in the brain that can be corrected? What about sleep disorders caused by an overactive brain that you cannot seem to shut off at night? All of these issues and more can be partially or fully mediated through neurofeedback training.
Here's how it works:
A high-tech computer system analyzes your brains electroencephalogram (EEG). That information is shown to your brain in the form of encoded video, audio, and tactile formats. Your brain recognizes the information as it's own and self-regulates. To put it another way, imagine that you are walking by a large glass window at your favorite local shopping center. As you pass, you notice the reflection of yourself in the window. You are surprised by your reflection because it does not portray you as you thought you looked, not as you intended to look. The reflection shows that you were walking hunched over a bit, something you have been trying not to do ever since your doctor explained how that kind of posture was not good for you. Fortunately, you heed the advice of the doctor and the window, stand up straight as you intended, and go on your way. And all is well again. In this same way, neurofeedback allows your brain to see that what it is doing is not what it has intended to do so that the brain can correct itself. AMAZING!
Neurofeedback training works well wherever there is a brain dysregulation. For starters, think about the things people typically take medicine for; headaches (including migraines), sleep disorders, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, learning disorders, epilepsy, seizures, chronic pain, PTSD, addictions, and more. While pharmaceuticals treat the symptoms of these issues, they rarely solve the underlying issues themselves. Further, most medicines have unintended side-effects that people just learn to live with. When treating these same issues with neurofeedback, you will not have the same side-effects as you would with pharmaceuticals. Find out more about neurofeedback here. In fact, nearly 90% of people trained with neurofeedback see 50% or better improvement in their symptoms!
I have always been fascinated by the brain and learning about the things that cause us to act and react in the ways that we do. Let me help you learn to function better with neurofeedback training. It can change how you feel, how you act, and how you interact with others.
