Understanding EMDR
EMDR stands for eye movement desensitization reprocessing, a therapy designed to help people recover from trauma and distressing events.
After trauma, our brains can heal on their own, letting us remember the event without pain. However, sometimes our brains struggle to heal, leaving us feeling stuck in negative thoughts, behaviors, or uncomfortable feelings. While other therapies may help reduce some discomfort, they don't address the root issues like EMDR does.
EMDR involves eight phases and is backed by research showing its effectiveness for trauma healing.
During the desensitization phase, it uses alternating eye movements, tapping, or sound. Unlike hypnosis, EMDR doesn't require discussing traumatic events in detail; some people choose to share specifics, while others prefer not to. By following the eight phases with one of our dedicated
EMDR trained counselors, the process helps the brain reprocess the trauma, enabling you to remember the experience without triggering stress responses.
Who is EMDR for?
Those individuals who have experienced a chaotic childhood, endured abuse during their adolescent years, faced secondary trauma in their workplace, or suffered from a terrible accident may struggle with various challenges, including anxiety, depression, or other mental health conditions.
